Should I do a newborn session?

Newborn photography is a special way to capture the memories of your newborn baby. It is a time when your baby is so tiny and perfect, and you will want to cherish these memories forever. A newborn photography session can be done in a studio or in your own home. If you choose to have your session in a studio we will work together to find the perfect studio to rent that fits your style perfectly. I will provide props/outfits/wraps and those fun goodies you need to create beautiful photos of your baby.

Newborn photography sessions are typically done when your baby is between 5 and 14 days old. This is the time when babies are still very sleepy and easy to pose. If you wait too long, your baby may be more awake and squirmy, which can make it difficult to get sleeping or posed photos. Its not impossible to get them but it will be completely up to the baby and how they feel that day!

Posed newborn photography sessions typically last for about 2-3 hours, we will take plenty of feeding and cuddling breaks to ensure baby is comfortable for the session. The photographer will guide you through the session and help you to pose your baby. I would encourage you to bring anything that you want to include in the photos, such as your baby's favorite blanket or toy!

Here are some tips for preparing for your newborn photography session:

  • Book your session early. We will set the date as your due date and then once baby arrives you just reach out to me and we will finalize a date- ideally within the first 15 days.

  • Wash your baby's hair. Your baby's hair will likely be a bit oily after birth. Washing their hair before the session will help to keep it looking clean and fresh.

  • Dress your baby in comfortable clothes. Your baby will be spending a lot of time in different positions during the session, so it is important to dress them in comfortable clothes. Choose loose-fitting clothes that will not restrict their movement.

  • Bring your baby's favorite toy or blanket. Having your baby's favorite toy or blanket with them during the session will help to keep them calm and comfortable.

  • Be patient. Newborn photography sessions can be long and tiring, so it is important to be patient. The photographer will work with you to create beautiful photos of your baby, but it may take some time.

  • Enjoy the experience! Newborn photography is a special time to bond with your baby and capture memories that you will cherish forever. Relax and enjoy the experience!

Let’s start with the basics.

When should I schedule my newborn? If you want a posed newborn session we will ideally schedule the session within the first fifteen days of your baby’s life. That’s when your baby will be the sleepiest and snuggliest giving us our best shot at getting the perfect shot! This doesn’t mean it’s impossible after that window, but ultimately baby will be in charge here. If they do not want to sleep don’t worry- we can still get some really amazing shots in.

Where will me session be? I do travel around the dfw metroplex for in home posed newborns sessions. You have some options… in home, outdoors, or we can rent a studio. In home I will bring you everything. I will bring props, wraps, outfits for baby and even outfits for mom if you want. Outdoors we need to keep in mind the season, there’s a small window that’s really ideal for this but it’s one of my favorites! I can also bring props for outdoor but the posing will have to be strictly in props. If you do not want to have it in home we can always rent a studio space- rental price will be added to your final invoice and keep in mind we want go rent for 2-3 hours.

Can the whole family be in the session? Yes they sure can!! I am happy to include everyone, even a beloved family pet!

I also have a comprehensive newborn guide that you’ll receive after we get that session booked! If you have more questions please feel free to reach out and ask.

What is client styling?

keller maternity photographer | NRH maternity photographer | Southlake maternity photographer

Hey my Fort Worth, keller, Southlake, colleyville, hurst, euless, bedford, Dfw metroplex maternity and family people looking for the best photographer in your area!

I get this one a lot, what does client styling even mean?

Lets start with the basics…Styling is the art of arranging and composing elements in a photograph to create a desired effect. It can involve anything from choosing the right clothes and accessories for a subject to arranging props and furniture in a scene. Styling can be used to create a variety of moods and atmospheres in a photograph, from casual and relaxed to formal and elegant. It can also be used to highlight the subject's features or to tell a story. My clients and I always work together to decide the perfect location but I will also work with you on finding outfits for the family!

Styling can be as simple as me helping suggest a color palate for your outfits to helping find a specific outfit for one or all members of the family. I have amazon wish lists that I’ve made to help you find outfits for the family that I will link! I have dresses for mom that are stunning that you are welcome to choose for your session. It can also be as simple as you sending me pictures of your family outfits and I will give you my feedback as to what I think would work best in your images.

Here are some tips for styling your photos:

  • Choose the right clothes and accessories. The clothes and accessories that you choose for your subject can have a big impact on the overall look of your photo. Make sure to choose clothes that fit well and that flatter your subject's figure. You may also want to choose accessories that add a pop of color or interest to the photo.

  • Colors matter. We want to find the right balance of color between the backdrop and your outfits. I love adding some visual interest- such a print, a flowy dress, jewelry, just something to stand out and we can do that even with color choices.

  • Pay attention to the details. The details can make all the difference in a styled photo. Make sure to pay attention to things like hair, makeup, and lighting. These details can help to create a more polished and professional look.

  • As an extra bonus to help out I also provide dresses for mom! I have invested tons into these gorgeous dresses that stand out and flow to add to your images- you don’t need to spend the money on outfits.

What’s the difference between lifestyle and posed newborn sessions?

what’s the difference between lifestyle and posed newborn?? Newborn session tips, newborn photography Fort Worth tx, Dfw maternity photographer

Hey Fort Worth mamas, looking for a photographer and trying to figure out the difference between posed and lifestyle?? I’m here to help!

What is lifestyle?

Lifestyle photography is a genre of photography that mainly aims to capture portraits of people in situations, real-life events or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday. The primary goal is to be a story teller about people's lives. This is meant to be a personalized experience that tells the story of your life! It’s relaxed, it’s timeless, and it’s a little window to travel back in time to those first few weeks of your baby’s life.

What do you provide for the sessions?

I have props, wraps, and a small selection of neutral outfits for baby to wear. My clients typically will choose indoors at home or outdoors at sunset. We are not limited to this, if you prefer to rent a studio hour I will send you my favorite local studios and the rental price will be added to your final invoice.

My client closet is still available for any mama who doesn’t want to worry about finding something to wear!

What should my baby wear to a newborn shoot?

With a newborn shoot it’s very difficult to see the outfit you have your baby in. Mostly they’re wrapped in a blanket, being held in your arms, or posed laying down and that means you just don’t see much of an outfit. Solid one piece outfits, like rompers, onesies, and things of that nature are strongly suggested. Two pieces will tend to ride up and bunch up and it’s not as easy to maneuver!

Do I need to do anything special to prepare for my newborn shoot?

The biggest suggestion I have is that you feed baby as close to the session as you can. The idea is to have a nice full belly and a happy, sleepy baby. This is also why i typically book sessions around 11 am, it’s nap time! Be ready to top off baby with milk at any time, whatever that means for you! Being a model is hard work and can sometimes leave them a little extra hungry. I know schedules are so important but this is the one day I’d suggest not worrying about it- just feed as needed.

What locations do you serve?

I am located in Fort Worth and mainly serve the Fort Worth side of the metroplex like Keller, southlake, colleyville, north Richland hills, Euless, Bedford, grapevine,Arlington etc. That being said, I have worked all around the DFW metroplex and can certainly accommodate you just reach out to discuss details of location.

Why book a newborn photoshoot?

The best reason I can give you is that babies just don’t keep. Every single day they grow bigger and bigger and you will want to hold on to those tiny hands and toes forever! The best way to do that is through as many pictures as you can take, and I know you’re taking them constantly! Let me take the reins for a bit and take some that include you in there as well!! I am a mother myself of two little ones and I understand what you’re going through. I want to support you and make this as easy of a day as possible!

Have any other questions for me??

Please reach out and I am happy to discuss, even if it’s just to answer some questions!

How to dress for your maternity session

How to dress for your maternity session | Fort Worth Maternity

Aside from choosing a photographer, choosing the outfit that you wear for the session is going to be top priority! It can seem really overwhelming with so many options and styles can be impossible to choose. I’m going to give you some tips here for styling and why photographers will suggest a specific styling. As a bonus a client closet is going to give you access to lavish and expensive dresses that otherwise wouldn’t have made sense to purchase. The outfit you choose and the location are going to be the biggest part of your session- choose it wisely!

If you’re looking for maternity in Fort Worth, DFW maternity then you are in luck- I am here for you and I’ve got you covered with a client closet. I know sometimes you don’t feel like you’re dressy in your normal day to day and it seems out of place, but listen this is the time to celebrate yourself. You’re growing a child, an entire human being, and you deserve all of it! Let’s make it special!

Ever wonder why photographers tend to purchase and suggest long flowy dresses, especially for maternity sessions? The fabric and flow adds texture, movement, and drama to those images. It can be difficult to find something to with your hands, you can only do so many things with your hands and your belly and trust me you will want that dress as an added prop to play with. Throw the dress and suddenly you’re a model in a magazine article. You can do this and I will be there to help guide you along to feel like a million dollars.

Texture and color are always important! If it’s cold let’s add a little faux fur to your outfit, if it’s warm a lace dress will give you so much texture. If you’re including family make sure you include yourself first, then you can choose their outfits based off yours! If you’re looking for further styling tips my DFW friends please check out my blog on styling your family.

Do not hold yourself back.

Let’s celebrate you.

Top five favorite Maternity Photoshoot locations in DFW

Selecting the perfect DFW location for your. maternity photo session

Does your photoshoot location mater?? YES! The answer is always yes! The location is really going to set the tone for the images you will receive back. Location and outfit is where your own personal style and taste will really shine though. What type of vibe do you love? Dramatic outdoor sunset lighting? indoor studio vibe? Let’s go through some of my favorites for you to see!

One of my top favorite choices for maternity session in Flower mound is at Murrell Park. Photoshoots at Murrell Park always bring the drama! Are you wondering how on earth a location plays a part in that? Well for a few different reasons! Being right off the lake it will always be a windy location, which really adds so much with a long flowing dress. You’ll see birds, stunning sunsets, and have the option of wading into the water! This location never disappoints for me and I don’t think it will for you either.

Some locations may seem simple enough but they have little spots in them that really stand out! If you’re looking for a maternity session in Fort Worth Airfield Falls gives you so much variety! From this gorgeous weeping willow tree to a smaller waterfall area it gives so options. There are fields, trees, water, and deepening on the season you’ll see various wildflowers. This one is a serious crowd favorite and can be pretty packed in the fall months- which is always something to keep in mind!

If you’re local to Keller and looking for a stunning maternity location idea I will always say The Keller pointe! It doesn’t seem like it but it has stunning little spots tucked away inside! There is a full wooded area with a forest feel that will give you those vibes you’re in search of! I am also a huge fan of the lake, bridges, and the stunning field of flowers that you will see there in the spring!

Studio sessions bring a whole different vibe! You won’t get the glowing sunrise or sunset light but the results are still picture perfect for your walls! There are plenty of Fort Worth studios available for maternity sessions, and yes you will have to pay for the hour in the studio. It is worth it! Pink Pineapple studio in Bedford brings the boho vibes with various set ups and backdrops available to match your personal style.

Unfortunately for us Texas is VERY flat, and although we don’t get any mountain views I think this is as close as we get! Tandy Hills in Fort Worth overlooks the entire city and on a clear day you get a perfect view of downtown Fort Worth! This location has lots of protected areas that are not to be disturbed but still boasts some perfect spots with stunning views. This spot is also very popular and can be very packed so it’s always a consideration. All this being said do you want to take on a two hour drive to find some actual mountains?? LETS GO!

Prepare for your Fort Worth fall Photoshoot

DFW - Fort Worth Fall mini boho retro inspired photoshoot

Are you in the market for the perfect fall boho inspired photoshoot in Fort Worth?! I got you covered!! Fall photoshoot season is upon us guys, and it’s my absolute favorite season of the year! The colors are changing to all those pretty tones, time to take out the cute fall outfits and show off those cute adorable pets and/or kiddos that make up your family! (Well really we’re in Texas so its hot well into November but sometimes we just pretend anyway!)

How do I know if I want a mini session or a full session?! Well here’s the deal, the main difference is that a mini is a shorter photoshoot with less images, usually involves a set up background, and at a pre-set time and day by the photographer. A full session gives you more control of your session- location, time, and place is up to you! Personally I prefer a full session most of the time, I like having the control over my session and I like giving my clients as much time as possible to get comfortable. With that being said though, I understand how the economy is fluctuating and I wanted to be able to offer one affordable photoshoot option for all my awesome clients! This mini will not disappoint!!

What are you doing for Fall minis this year in the DFW - Fort Worth Area?? This year I am doing something a little special and hosting boho/70s inspired minis with an adorable VW bus! I could not be more excited to be doing these, the vibes are immaculate! If you want to have some fun and have some stunning retro inspired images for fall this year send me a message to take a spot! You will not want to miss it.

How to prepare for a Newborn Session

Preparing for a newborn lifestyle session

DFW newborn photographer | Keller newborn | Southlake newborn |hurst newborn

In fort worth and trying to find out how to prepare for your newborn session?

Lifestyle photography is a genre of photography that aims to capture real life events and situations. The art that happens every day while you snuggle, kiss, hug, and generally love on your littles is what we want to see! It lends itself to a more emotional shot and ideally captures what those picture perfect every day moments between the chaos feel like. The intention is to tell a story, but more importantly your story.

Depending on your session once we finish the lifestyle portion we will move on to posing the baby. This includes some table poses of baby on fabric as well as some props, beds, outfits, etc. This portion baby is still in charge, we will move slowly and methodically to make sure we keep them comfortable while still getting the posing you’d like. Please keep in mind if baby absolutely doesn’t want to do a pose then I will not force it- because of this please expect your posing portion of the session to take time. Be patient. If you feed baby formula then I highly suggest it for this session- even if you normally BF because this will keep baby fuller for longer and give us longer stretches of time to work with.

Keller newborn photography | NRH newborn | Southlake Newborn

Keller newborn session | Southlake newborn session | Colleyville newborn photographer

When do I set up my newborn session?

Ideally we want baby to still be in that super sweet sleepy phase and that really peaks within the first ten days. Does that mean its impossible when they’re older? Absolutely not but just be aware that the session will typically take longer if you want baby asleep. This is not the day to worry about schedules we just want to focus on baby being happy, full belly, and sleepy. Babies tend to have very sharp erratic movements and lack control (duh, they’re babies!) which is why a sleepy and relaxed baby tends to photograph better.

DFW Newborn photography

What do I bring to my newborn session?

Be prepared to feed baby during the session! Even if baby came in full they’re still working hard and that can make them hungry and cranky so be ready to fuel those little bellies back up!! Keep any outfits super simple, mostly because they won’t really be seen and have a tendency to bunch up. I provide some simple outfits as well as a variety of wrap colors to help coordinate with your style. Really think simple and timeless here because these will be a once in a lifetime session and before you know it you’ll have a big giant toddler!

Why is a newborn session more expensive?

Simply put they are a lot more time intensive than any other session! Have you noticed babies have different skin coloring than most? Sometimes they’re yellow, pink, have lots of acne, the list goes on and on but basically its a very intensive edit! Takes a ton of time to get correct, and the session takes a lot longer than any other session would because we will follow the pace of what baby wants to do.

Styling and selecting outfits for your Fort Worth Fall photoshoot

styling and choosing outfits for photo session

You found your dream photographer, picked the date, and set up your shoot… now it’s time to make the two most important decisions location and outfits. These things will have the biggest impact on the final images you will receive. If you love your outfits and feel good in them the chances are you’ll love your session as well! This is where I would lean in and listen to your photographers opinions on color choices. Make sure you are comfortable, never pick an outfit that you can barely move in because that discomfort if going to come through in the images.

Colors are so important!! You’ll want to go together but that doesn’t mean that you’re stuck to only one color choice. I always start with moms outfit, she is the queen of our shoot and most of the time the one who set it up and can often be the most difficult outfit to find. I recently had my own family photos taken and I started with my dress first. I had to consider what overall look did I want? How did I want to feel? The answer for me is simple, I like drama and boho so I knew this extra long lace dress would fit perfectly for me. It has lots of texture and interest while still being a solid simple cream color and that gave me endless options for the rest of my family.

Now that I know I want boho and have set the stage with my own dress I can move onto the next. I knew that for my son I wanted him in overalls because it’s such a timeless look for me and he likes them so there would be no fight over it! (Added bonus!) I searched and found the perfect pair, light muslin fabric, think texture and comfort, in a mint green! Since I have the start of my color palate and I know I can find a pattern to work in. Having at least one pattern always adds some visual interest but it’s also going to add to your color choices!

I searched for some patterned sundresses for my daughter and settled on one that was mint green with little yellow, deep green, and white flowers. I picked the deep green from the flowers to decide on dads outfit and add some depth of color since the rest of us has very light colors. A simple and classic polo or button up is always going to look on dad! My husband likes polos so he got a deep green polo and brown slacks to complete the look.

All together I think it took me about an hour to decide on pieces I loved! When you find one piece at a time the process can be really quick and you’ll end up loving the finished product!! Remember your outfit choices matter and are there to set the stage for what your final image will look like. Look through your favorite photographers work and see if there’s photos that you keep looking at, what colors are they wearing? This will help you find a good starting point for what you may see yourself in.
